Character Canon: Kingdom Hearts AU
Character Age/Gender: 11 year old male
Canon Point: Shortly after Ansem shuts down the experiments. They have yet to resume them in secrecy yet. So closing in on two years after Birth By Sleep ends.

Character Personality: Ienzo is fairly quiet. And in fact does not speak at all in his appearance in Birth By Sleep. It's not that he can't speak at all, as in later games he does speak. No explanation is given for his silence however, it could potentially be a form of Selective Mutism, having trouble speaking in some situations, and being fine in others.
He is shown to be quite intelligent as well. He is taken on as Ansem's sixth apprentice and works on the research on the darkness in human hearts alongside the others, despite his young age. He's something of a child prodigy, mostly in the field of science. He has a thirst for knowledge and enjoys learning.
Ienzo is a curious child, which is part of what drives his thirst to learn. He loves having something to solve. A puzzle or problem to work out. He has keen observation skills, in part because his trouble with speaking helps him focus more on listening than coming up with a response to things. His curiosity can lead to danger though, as with the experiments he takes part in alongside his fellow apprentices.
He loves to read. His favorites, when he doesn't have his nose in a science text book, are fantasies and fairy tales. Though in an attempt to convince others he's more grown up and mature, he pretends not to be interested in what he thinks to be 'childish' genres. In the end, books are books to Ienzo. If he can read it, he will. (He'll just be careful who sees him doing so in the case of his 'childish' literature.)
As a child, despite his intelligence, there are a great many things he doesn't know and he still has a long way to go with his studies. While he loves to learn, he does enjoy many of the things children typically do. Especially ice cream. He likes to slip away from his chaperons and sneak away to play when he can. One of these instances lands him in trouble with the unversed.
Ienzo also has his somewhat bratty moments, resorting to pranks rather than temper tantrums if he feels wronged or cheated. They tend to be fairly harmless and typically pointed at Even. Though this is because Even is usually the one who has to deal with him. Sometimes they are for the purpose of getting back at the man, but occasionally Ienzo just wants the man's attention. He approaches doing so rather passive-aggressively.
AU Information:
Ienzo was born in Radiant Garden, the only child to very doting parents. They didn't always have money for the finer things in life, but they had what they needed and were a happy family. Ienzo was found to be particularly bright at a very young age and his parents were thrilled, doing what they could to ensure he would have what he needed in life to utilize that intelligence.
He would eventually catch the eye of Ansem the Wise, who expressed interest in taking him on as an apprentice when he was older. Unfortunately, his parents both passed away in an accident involving the unversed. With nowhere else to go, Ansem the Wise took Ienzo in as an apprentice, despite his age, placing him under the watch of the science crew, mainly Even. Ienzo, mourning the loss of his parents, became very quiet and withdrawn. To cope with his loss, he lost himself in books, most of which were above his reading level and of the non-fiction variety.
Despite a surprising intelligence for his age, Ienzo is still a child and sometimes gets himself into trouble while avoiding his chaperons. In one instance, coming under attack by the unversed. It was at this point he was rescued by a keyblade wielder by the name of Aqua. Being too shy to speak up and thank her, he was soon saved from having to as Even arrived to do so instead. He would never see her again as she would soon be killed by Ventus under Vanitas' manipulation and go on to become a Nobody.
He formed strong bonds with his fellow apprentices, particularly Even and Xehanort, whom he spent so much time with in the labs. And Aeleus whom he looked to as an elder sibling figure in his life. Though he still missed his parents, over time he started to come to see the other apprentices as his family.
Ienzo took a great interest in science, learning from Even and Xehanort as he went along and eventually becoming involved in the studies on the heart when they began. And now that Ansem has shut them down, while on the surface he pretends to agree, he is on Even and Xehanort's side in believing they should continue.
Character Abilities: Considering at this time point he is just a human child, about the only real abilities he has to his name are an above average intelligence, keen observation skills and a knack for science.
Character Inventory: His lab coat, 2 notebooks (one for his school work and one for his notes on the experiments. The second is currently not very full due to his original one being confiscated when experiments ceased) and a WINNER ice cream stick from a sea salt ice cream bar.

Slipping away from the labs from time to time was a big necessity for Ienzo. He enjoyed the experiments and he even, despite some differences in opinion on how important carrots were in regards to his diet, enjoyed the company of Even. However, every now and then he needed to get out and into the fresh air.
And it was an added bonus that whenever he did, it forced Even out into the fresh air as well.
This was one such time, as he crept through the garden, looking for a place to hide out for a while and settle down with a copy of The Phantom Tollbooth. He never managed to get much of it read before succumbing to sleep each night as he lay in bed.
But here in the daytime, out in the warm spring air, maybe he could actually go about finding out what happened next. He settles himself under the shade of a large tree, leaning against the rough bark of the trunk for support and cracking the book open on his knees. His drifting off during reading so often leaves him searching for the spot he left off, having forgotten to mark it.
It seems no sooner than he locates his spot and is just beginning to read that he hears Even's voice calling to him. Seems his disappearance had finally been noticed. There was a bit of satisfaction that he'd gotten the man's attention, but right now he doesn't want to be found. And indeed, it won't be long until the man finds him if he stays here, so it's up and off through the garden again, in search of another hiding spot.
